Family Letter 3-25-20
March 25, 2020
Dear PS 229 Families:
The past couple of weeks have been filled with firsts for all of us. I don’t think anyone expected for school buildings to be closed, and teachers expected to create online learning platforms, up and running within days. And then expect students and parents to transition like it’s all been done before. However, with that said, I am very proud of not only our 229 teachers, but of all of you and your children for adapting and putting forth your best effort to ensure that our students continue to receive instruction and prevent them from falling behind. I know some of you are still struggling to get into the established Google Classrooms and some do not have the technology necessary to participate in the online classrooms. Continue to reach out to your child’s teacher so they can provide support and get you into the virtual classroom. For those parents that need the technology, the DOE is issuing devices for those parents that complete a survey, but you MUST compete the survey in order to be considered for one. Please keep in mind that filling out the survey does not guarantee that your child will receive one. But please make the request, otherwise they will not be considered for one at all. You make that request by visiting https://coronavirus.schools.nyc/RemoteLearningDevices. As a school we are trying to address each of your individual needs, but with nearly 1400 students, that will take time and patience.
This time has been difficult and there is a learning curve for everyone. In time, I expect that things should settle down and become simpler and more accessible for everyone. The most important thing to keep in mind is safety first. Take care of the health of your families, make wise decisions and exercise social distancing to the best extent possible. As long as we all do our part to stop the spread, the sooner we can get back to the life we all know and love.
Continue to reach out to your teachers, Parent Coordinator Mrs. Messina, or myself for whatever support we can provide. Log into our website at PS229Q.org as we continue to update it daily with the most current and important information. Additionally, if you have not established an NYC schools account you must do so, but first you will need a creation code. Email Mrs. Messina for that and then visit https://mystudent.nyc/ to create the account. Report cards will be out soon, and at this time you will only be able to access it through that site.
Thank you for your patience, cooperation and support during this time.
